Admission Procedure

The Alpha College Admission Process is an extensive exercise and the policy is designed to ensure the quality of the student recruitment procedure. This is a two-fold process which involves eligibility check and the other is suitability check.

Eligibility Check
• Initial Screening
• Interview / English Language Assessment

Suitability Check
• Financial Stability
• Final Decision

Initial Screening

All applications received (either online or via post as discussed above) are sent to the Admin Department for initial screening by a designated staff of ACOL team, who screens and completes the application by liaising with the student or agents to assess the application against the eligibility criteria of the awarding body and the eligibility criteria of Alpha College. The application is then sent to the admissions committee which comprises of the Principal and Director.

This is the responsibility of the principal to make necessary checks for the genuineness of educational documents submitted with the application form. This can be done via a variety of methods. One method is through the student representatives that Alpha College has appointed overseas. The regional representatives will check the documents for their validity. These documents will be needed to be attested and verified by appropriate bodies overseas. The office in London can also use online methods for verification which have been implemented by several of the awarding bodies overseas. The student ID number and / or awarding body reference number shown as part of the awarded degree, transcript as well as any other qualification document, will be used to enter into the online verification system to confirm the details of the qualification as well as accuracy of records. This system can be used to the advantage of ensuring in a viable manner that only authentic and genuine applications are entertained while being considered for admission.

Upon the completion of the completion of the document checks stage the next stage of the admission process will begin.

At this point the agents are engaged to make the financial stability checks.

Alpha College will see the financial statements of the students issued from appropriate financial institutions on headed paper with a company stamp (having being duly signed). This step is important to ensure that students are able to support their studies and living costs while in the UK which would provide further evidence of the genuineness of a student’s desire to study in the UK.

Once the committee is satisfied, the application is passed onto the next stage for interview and English Language Assessment. This is a fundamental part of the student recruitment process to ensure the students applying have the relevant proficiency in English Language which will enable them to not only be able to apply for admission successfully but also be able to progress through the course in a most efficient manner – if they are given admission and are successful in obtaining a visa.

Interview & English Language Assessment

For courses at NQF / QCF levels 4 & 5, all applicants are required to show a formal English test score from one of the bodies that UKBA has prescribed. The minimum level of test score (for example IELTS) will be that being equivalent to level B1 of the CEFR.  (This would be a score of 4.5 band – IELTS. A breakdown of the scores required under the umbrella of the different tests acceptable as prescribed by UKBA is given as part of the admissions policy).

For courses at level’s 6 & 7 all applicants will need to show a formal English test score from one of the bodies that UKBA has prescribed. The minimum level of test score (for example IELTS) will be that being equivalent to level B2 of the CEFR.

(This would be a score of 5.5 band – IELTS A breakdown of the scores required under the umbrella of the different tests acceptable as prescribed by UKBA is given as part of the admissions policy). For students based overseas, the interview in the first instance is conducted by the student representative agents (in the country that the student is applying from) and then the interview will be taken over SKYPE by staff (forming part of the admissions team) in London at Alpha College.  Click here for the list of English Language Tests that have been assessed as meeting the UK Border Agency‟s requirements.

All students are required to give an interview as part of the rigorous pre-admission assessment. This interview can be conducted face to face in the instance that an Alpha College team member (part of the admissions Department) is present in the home country of the student. This can be when a member of the admissions Department is present in that specific country on a marketing and recruitment drive or locally at Alpha College if the student is already an International visa student present in the UK and looking to further progress their studies after completing a previous course, and progressing on a higher level course as per the Qualification Credit Framework, or where they are wishing to change sponsors.

In cases where the student is present in an international country and no member of the admissions department is present in that country, the student is still interviewed (as there is no compromise at all with regards to interviews prior to admission), the student will be interviewed over SKYPE.

The interview will first be conducted by the student representative agents (in the country that the student is applying from – if applicable) and then the interview will be taken over SKYPE by staff (forming part of the admissions team) in London at Alpha College.

The form that is used by a member of the Alpha College admissions Department is known as the pre-admission assessment form. The form comprises a series of questions which are used to assess the eligibility of the student as per UKBA requirements, guidelines and eligibility criteria of the awarding body, intention to study, academic history, ability to pay fees and that they understand the terms and conditions of their admission at Alpha college as well as their conditions of stay in the country as per the Tier 4 visa requirements.
